What Scar Revision Is Right for Me?

When you come into our office to discuss scar revision treatment options with us, there are factors that our team will need to consider to determine which treatment option is best for you. The type and severity of your scar are significant deciding factors as to whether a topical treatment, minimally invasive procedure or surgical revision is best. This is why a consultation with us is imperative before undergoing any scar revision.

What Types of Scars Do You Treat?

We can improve the appearance of a wide range of different types of scars, including,

  • Keloid scars
  • Surgical scars
  • Hypertrophic scars
  • Contractures

What Are the Different Kinds of Scar Revision Options?

We offer a full range of scar revision options to cater to all of your needs. These options include,

  • Steroid injections: Steroid injections are often used to treat keloid and hypertrophic scars to reduce redness, itching or burning that may result from your scar. Injections may also decrease the size of the scar.
  • Pressure therapy: Compression, silicone or pressure therapy is another conservative treatment that may reduce the height and thickness of more severe hypertrophic scars such as burn scars.
  • Laser surgery: In some instances, lasers can be used to smooth or flatten a scar, so it’s less visible. Laser surgery may be performed with steroids or other non-surgical scar revision treatments.
  • Incision surgery: If scars do not respond to nonsurgical scar revisions, our West Lafayette, IN, dermatologist may recommend an incision surgery to remove the scar. Sometimes skin grafting is required to place healthy tissue over the area.
